In the kingdom of Lovero, nine rival Families of assassins lawfully kill people for a price. As a highly skilled member of one of these powerful clans, seventeen-year-old Lea Saldana has always trusted in the strength of her Family. Until she awakens to find them murdered and her home in flames. The Da Vias, the Saldanas’ biggest enemy, must be responsible—and Lea should have seen it coming. But her secret relationship with the Da Vias’ son, Val, has clouded her otherwise killer instinct—and given the Da Vias more reason than ever to take her Family down.

Racked with guilt and shattered over Val’s probable betrayal, Lea sets out to even the score, with her heart set on retaliation and only one thought clear in her mind: make the Da Vias pay.

About the Author
Sarah Ahiers spent her childhood running around outside with her siblings, drawing pictures, and writing stories. Now, as a grown-up, she has an MFA in writing for children and young adults, and while she does less running around outside, the writing has held fast.
Sarah lives in Minnesota with three dogs and a houseful of critters. She has a collection of steampunk hats, and when she’s not writing she fills her time with good games, good food, good friends, and good family.

I feel so bad. My first day back and I'm starting with a book that I just got about 40 pages into.  (insert sad face here)  This one I wanted to love. I think I got this from book outlet forever ago. (like sometime last year since it just came out Feb. of 2016.  but anyway It just didn't work out for me.

The start of the story was very slow which was fine. I was intrigued with the world, but that pretty much fell apart before I really got going.  I really liked the idea that they were called clippers and that the MC was almost taken out at the start of the book.  But after that, we got a lot of secret passageways and an already going romance.  Which the romance I'm not too concerned about. But the passageways etc. were a little confusing.
